Instant Gratification

We live in such an on demand world that we have grown accustom to getting what we want when we want it.  This is convenient for us in ways and can also be an obstacle for us in ways too.  At Emotion Station we investigate the pitfalls of instant gratification and how it can be barriers to our growth, relationships, and careers.

Convenience

Effort is an enormous part of growth and change and if things become too easy we tend to slack on our effort which can influence everyone and everything around us.  Effort is a major component to healthy relationship and in a world of instant gratification it deters from putting forth effort or overcoming obstacles.  Obstacles are a normal part of life and can introduce us to areas that we never knew we could thrive.  Obstacles get us out of our comfort zone and into a world of new discovery.  When we get to comfortable getting what we want it allows us to begin to detach in ways, and when things are too convenient it could hinder our motivation to achieve or grow.  Convenience brings unrealistic expectations when we do have to work for things.

Entitlement

Entitlement is a dangerous place because when we live in an entitled world value can be diminished.  When we become too good for people or jobs we take a one up stance which can hinder our growth and relationships.  Entitlement can also hinder our education in life because if we know everything we do not look to seek out new insights keeping a closed mind.  In therapy we always work with clients to learn the importance of striving and never arriving and entitlement can cause us to feel like we not only have arrived but refuse to grow anymore.  Every action has a re-action and instant gratification can lead to an entitled ego.  An entitled ego can lead to being too good for everything and everyone around you.  Contact Emotion Station today to discuss how instant gratification is holding you back 239-317-3115.
